September 2016 – two exhibitions for Artism by Jake!

It’s been a little while since we’ve had any news to blog about, mainly because Jake has been inundated with commissions! But now we’re looking forward to September, when Jake will be exhibiting twice:
The Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley, London - 1st September - 4th October
The Phoenix Cinema is one of London’s last few independent cinemas, built in 1910. Showing independent films and alternative content, it is located 2 minutes walk from East Finchley underground station.
This location is particularly exciting for us, because it is our local cinema. Jake will have eight large canvas prints of his paintings up in the cinema for anyone to pop in and have a look at - it’s got a lovely bar and cafe if you don’t fancy seeing a film.
The Phoenix has written a press release, too, which says some lovely things about Jake and his work:
“The Phoenix Cinema is proud to present the work of London artist Jake Chodosh throughout September in our exhibition space.
“The exhibition is a bright, explosive and dedicated homage to popular culture. Reminiscent of the Fauvist movement of the early 20th century this is a naive a refreshing realism representing modern celebrities, whose images are usually consumed under a controlled, digitally perfected and are tactically released. An outsider artist in its truest form, Jake’s free expression and interpretation of his subject matter is uncensored and honest.”
We LOVE this description of Jake’s art. We’re particularly happy that we can now add ‘reminiscent of the Fauvist movement of the early 20th century’ to Jake’s bio because that makes us sound very clever.

The Beautiful Octopus Club Festival, Friday 9 September 2016, 7pm-midnight at the Southbank Centre, London
A selection of Jake’s paintings will be shown as part of the The Beautiful Octopus Club Festival, which is free and open from 7pm until midnight at The Royal Festival Hall on Friday 9 September.
The Beautiful Octopus Club is London’s longest running multi-media club night. Created by creative arts organisation Heart n Soul in 1995, it features live performances, DJs & VJs and interactive take-part zones. DJs and performers from across the learning disability scene present music and creativity.
This is the second time Jake has exhibited at this festival and we’re so happy they asked us to come back. We love being able to say that Jake has exhibited his art at the Royal Festival Hall!
More information can be found here and the Facebook event page can be found here.
Hope to see you there!
